The Lonely Face by Jesse Warford

Jesse Warford’s creative practice spans over four decades and has resulted in the production of multiple and robust series of print-based works and paintings. His work is characterized by bold and assertive gestures, and the employment of color to convey intense emotions. The work of Vincent Van Gogh has been particularly influential, specifically the emotive usage of color and brush strokes. The Dutch Master’s storied personal history has been a subject of fascination for Warford, inspiring titles for recent etchings such as, “My Lonely Brother” and “Come Home Brother”. Jesse Warford has been working out of ECF Art Centers' South L.A. studio since 1973.

“Been making art for a long time. For a long time, too. Doing this here, doing my pictures. Make it with paper and stuff. I wanna make me some money doing my artwork too. Doing it good. Somebody’s gotta do it! I got friends down here. Some good friends down here. I do jobs, do my job and get paid for it. Take the trash out, put a bag in the can, put all the stuff out there in the blue barrel. I do it good too, I do it good. Hey, somebody’s gotta do it.”
