Xochilt Escobar began working out of ECF Art Centers' Downtown L.A. in 2015 and transferred to the San Pedro art center in 2023. Xochilt Escobar works primarily in ceramics. Her designs for functional objects, such as lamps, candle holders, and salt and pepper shakers, have a very organic and earthy quality. Her etching work includes angular shapes and symbols, and almost has a hieroglyphic nature. Over the years Xochilt has established herself as a ceramicist, now working exclusively on her brand that can be instantly recognized as “a Xochilt”. Her work is coveted by collectors and ceramicists alike.

What made you want to focus your art practice on ceramics and working with clay?

Xochilt: I just like it. I don’t know. It calms me down. I like working with clay. I started drawing and making shapes and then pastels. Magda (Xochilt’s Art Instructor) taught me how to make my shapes out of clay. How to make cups and bowls and I am really good at it, and it keeps me busy all day. I don’t know. I just like it.
