Rene Cureton

Rene Cureton has been working out of ECF Art Centers' South L.A. studio since 2007. Cureton’s body of work is almost exclusively comprised of abstract expressionist acrylic paintings on paper. Although her practice has largely been developed in a self taught manner, there are aesthetic parallels between the vibrant fields of colors that inhabit her works, and mid-twentieth century American folk art. Cureton avoids working directly from exterior references, instead her artwork is a document of her stream of consciousness translated into a two dimensional object.
