Maria Alvarado has worked out of ECF Art Centers' San Pedro studio since 2012. Maria came to the ECF Art Center after leaving a Work Program where she attended many years diligently working with her hands and enjoying what she did. At the ECF Art Centers Maria began to explore her creative freedom and using different mediums including ceramics, drawing and painting. Recently Maria discovered her passion for textile work and learned to sew from her Art Instructor Mia. Using a variety of fibers she creates functional and decorative pieces which are often mixed with beads, bold stitch lines and layers of fabric. Maria has even completed a piece for her sister Angie who also attends the ECF Art Center San Pedro. Maria has a playful personality and likes to make friends at the studio; she enjoys trips to local museums and galleries and attending Foodie Club in the studio.
